Our Story

I was just five years old, in kindergarten, when my mom lovingly packed a small tiffin of makhana for my recess snack. It was such a simple thing -  something so normal and familiar to me - yet that day, it became something unforgettable..

During recess, as I sat munching on the crunchy little puffs, my class teacher walked by, curious about what I was eating. With the confidence in the world, I proudly said, “It’s makhana!”

She leaned closer and asked, “Makhana? What’s that?”

And that’s when I realized - I didn’t really know how to explain it. To me, makhana wasn’t exotic or new. It was just…home. A taste that carried comfort, warmth and a sense of belonging.

So I simply smiled and offered her some. She tried it -  and I’ll never forget the look on her face. Her eyes lit up in surprise and delight, as if she had just stumbled upon something truly special, and said “These are so good!”

That memory stayed with me.

Years later, after moving to the states, I found myself reliving that same feeling time and again. Each time I opened a packet of makhana or shared it with a friend, I saw that same spark of curiosity, that same first bite of wonder, followed by a smile that said, this is special.

It reminded me that makhana isn’t just a snack - it’s a bridge between worlds. A taste that connects hearts across cultures, carrying with it the comfort of home and the joy of discovery.

And that’s where our story truly begins - with a humble handful of makhana, shared from one hand to another, bringing warmth, connection and the feeling of home, no matter where life takes you.
